John S. Steigerwald
Partner and Co-Founder of Steigerwald, Gordon & Koch Wealth Advisors, John's
activities are focused on a broad range of strategic matters, with emphasis on operational
excellence. He has overall responsibility for implementing and executing the mission
and vision of the Company, providing each client with an investment experience dedicated
to achieving each client's goals. John is committed to partner with the rest of
the SGK Wealth Advisors team to grow the firm while maintaining its strong culture
of compliance and transparency.
Experience: Prior to receiving his MBA, John spent 6 years at Xerox
in senior level sales, marketing and training positions before being leaving to
pursue his graduate studies. While attending The Wharton School of Business,
John worked at Goldman Sachs in New York and Philadelphia. There he worked in the
company’s Fixed Income and Private Client Services divisions. He started his
own financial services firm in 1995.
Education and Credentials:
University of Manitoba, Bachelor of Arts (Advanced),
Applied Economics and The Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania,
MBA, Finance and Investment Management.
Long active in sports activities, John was an avid hockey player (he did grow up
in Canada after all). He played Junior hockey in Canada and was a member of the Manitoba provincial rugby team. Currently,
he enjoys downhill skiing, sailing, waterskiing and fishing with his family while
vacationing in Canada. At present, John serves as Chairman of the Board of
Blue Ridge Speech & Hearing, Loudoun County’s largest non-profit organization
serving underprivileged children and seniors with needs in these areas. He
has worked with youth extensively in the past through Positive Youth Works, Junior
Achievement and the Young Entrepreneurs Program. He was also Chairman of Fundraising
for Christmas in April while attending Wharton. John and his family live in
Jeff Gordon, CFA®
Responsibilities: Jeff’s main role is to insure that the investments
he makes for his clients are good values – getting a dollar’s worth
of assets for less. He accomplishes this by seeking out companies that have a catalyst
or competitive advantage and may be overlooked or overly discounted by the market.
Jeff began his career as a Financial Analyst for Kidder Peabody in 1992. Leaving
after two years to start the MBA program, he took a summer internship studying
the chemical and trucking industries for Neuberger Berman where he was recruited
and soon became a Vice President and Portfolio Manager for Citigroup Asset
Management/Salomon Smith Barney in New York where he primarily managed trust accounts
for high net worth individuals and small corporations. In 2002, Jeff left Citigroup
to join SGK Wealth Advisors.
and Credentials: Jeff earned a BS in
Commerce with distinction from the University of Virginia with a double major in
Finance and Marketing. He went on to earn an MBA with a major in Finance and a concentration
in investment management from The Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to being a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Jeff is a member of the
Wharton Club of DC, the CFA Society of Washington, D.C. and the New York Society
of Security Analysts. With his wealth management expertise, Jeff is a frequent participant
at speaking engagements for Schwab clients and groups of medium and large businesses.
Interests: Married with two children and living in Herndon, Virginia,
Jeff loves reading, travel and soccer.
Darren Koch, CFP® CEPA
Darren is committed to analyzing the various options available
to clients and offering them solutions that provide them the greatest amount of
control and flexibility over their circumstances. Experience:
Darren has worked with a variety
of nationally recognized financial planning and investment management firms in the
Washington metro area since 1993. For over 16 years Darren has managed affluent
client relationships and worked directly with business owners, professionals, and
retirees, strategizing retirement plan selection and implementing comprehensive
retirement income planning solutions. This
diverse wealth of experience he brings to his clients when developing comprehensive
financial plans create a positive and productive
wealth management experience.
Darren is often invited as a guest speaker to discuss retirement planning
and wealth management topics.
Education and Credentials: Darren graduated
from Radford University. He is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®)
and Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA). From the College of Financial Planning,
he has earned the following designations: Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist
(CRPS®), Chartered Mutual Fund
Counselor (CMFC®), Accredited
Asset Management Specialist (AAMS®).
enjoys hiking with his family and practicing golf, is a Northern Virginia native
and currently lives with his family in Leesburg.
Lisa G. Martin
Lisa’s responsibilities run the gamut from opening accounts, running reports,
maintaining client communications, database management and general office support.
Lisa brings a wealth of experience to her position, providing
customer support and general back office responsibilities. As a Financial Analyst
at Financial Services of Rockville, MD, she developed an acute understanding of
the needs for prompt and efficient customer service. Prior to her FSA experience,
she was in both customer service and operations at Ace Products and McQueen Ball.
Education: Lisa has a AAS in Paralegal Studies from
Lehigh Carbon Community College and a BS in Business Administration from Albright
Interests: Lisa is involved in several activities such as biking,
hiking and target shooting, as well as yoga, reading and knitting.
As a registered Paraplanner
and part of the Financial Planning team, Naseema will support Darren with all aspects
of the financial planning process, to make it as efficient and as easy as possible
for our clients. She will assist clients with creating solutions to their financial
planning questions and issues.
Naseema started her financial
career in banking twenty eight years ago, with Barclays Bank PLC and Price Waterhouse
and went on to form a three partner accounting firm. She has over twenty years
of accounting, auditing and tax experience as well as financial planning and operations
experience with domestic and international clientele.
Naseema comes to us from Botswana,
Southern Africa. She received her accounting qualification from the Chartered
Institute of Management Accountants in the UK and her Registered Paraplanner certification
from the College of Financial Planning. She has completed her financial planning education at Georgetown University and is currently pursuing her CFP®
Naseema enjoys reading, the
theatre and travel. She resides in Northern Virginia with her daughter.
Karen Showalter, CPA
Responsibilities: Karen is the SGK Wealth Advisors team
member who manages the flow of information within the firm. She manages all the
company’s databases and helps facilitate account activity and statements for
With over thirty years of experience in the public sector, corporate finance
and non-profit positions including KPMG, Vistan Corporation, the National
Sporting Library and working independently for prominent families in the
Fauquier County area, Karen’s experience at SGK Wealth Advisors has made her a
key member of the SGK Wealth Advisors team. Her experience and
training has enabled her to maintain and improve systems that insure the
highest level of client relations and account accuracy, from opening a new
account to managing the flow of information to investors.
Certifications: Karen is a graduate of the University of
Mary Washington where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. She is
a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of Virginia since 1992 and
a Certified Global Management Accountant since 2011.
Interests: A resident of Marshall, Virginia,
Karen is active in her local community, an avid gardener and reader.
